Augur and Hitchcock family papers, 1822-1869.

Correspondence between and diaries of members of two New Haven, Connecticut families. Includes letters and a logbook written by Captain Daniel Augur, the latter recorded while he was aboard the Revenue Cutter Dexter in 1833, letters from Frank Hitchcock while he was serving in the Civil War, and from Horace Augur in Peru, a religious diary kept by Mary Ann Augur and a diary by Sheldon Hitchcock, 1840, written in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Daniel Page Augur of New Haven, Connecticut, married Hannah Smith. Their son Horace was a cabinetmaker who worked in Peru from 1826-1830. Daniel and Hannah's daughter Caroline married Sheldon Hitchcock. Their second son, Frank Hitchcock, served with the 13th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers from 1861-1865.
